Sandra Wall Rubin is an IGMA Fellow and a master at creating unique miniature floral arrangements. Her inspiration often comes from 17th century Dutch masters paintings. Sandra's processes are numerous, as she uses a variety of conventional--and unconventional--materials.

Beautiful ikebana arrangements inspired by floral arrangements of 16th century Dutch masters. Note: Ikebana is the ancient Japanese art of flower arranging.

Dealer Troy Schmidt, Red Dragon Pottery

Troy Schmidt of Red Dragon Pottery is known for his creations of exceptional quality wheel-thrown porcelain artwork in 1-inch scale. Each piece is individually handcrafted on a full size potter's wheel. In detailed miniature, Troy creates replicas of historic ceramic styles as well as modern art for miniature museums and collectors.  He is known for constructing a diverse assortment of pottery shapes and styles. Blue Celadon Group: A soft grey-blue celadon glaze that highlights any texture and carving on the porcelain.
White/Green Japanese Celadon Group: The formula for this recipe was given to me by Harvey Young a potter from Mashiko, Japan.  While conducting a workshop at our Santa Barbara studio in the 1990's he reformulated one of his glazes so we could use our local ingredients - this glaze was the result.
Shino Group: This is an orange American variant of a glaze group that had it origins in 16th century Japan and was at that time typically white with orange edge highlights.  Over time it has evolved to include a group of glazes that range from white to orange (sometimes with gray/black speckling).

Black and Gold Group: A metallic Semi-Matt Black glaze of my own formulation highlighted with bright gold luster in 22K

Crackle Group: A delicate Asian inspired glaze which appears ancient and timeless at the same time.

At the Show - Exhibits

This week's exhibits are two charming Christmas scenes that were displayed at the 2012 Good Sam Show. Miniature holiday-themed vignettes add festive flair and cheer to any home. They also make unique gifts. Photos courtesy of Connie Sauve, Good Sam Exhibit Chairman.

"Mrs. Claus" is busy preparing a Holiday feast. Her pet pig in a Santa hat adds a humorous touch. Mrs. Claus was made by Jenny Edwards of Jendlewick Dolls in the U.K. This 1:12 scale Christmas scene is by Ruth Alves, Auburn, CA.

Mini Winter Cabin in quarter-scale by Judy Meyer, San Dimas, CA. "This was a class taught by Debbie Young (Young at Heart) at the Portland Small Scale Convention," Judy says. "I used some of the round table gifts and souvenirs from the convention to complete and furnish it."  The exhibit is 5" wide by 5" deep, and 8" tall.

From the Chairman

We expect to have the featured workshops on our Website and Blog by May l. The featured workshop teachers this year are Debbie Young of Young at Heart (quarter-scale), Craig Roberts of The Hairy Potter, and The Guys From Texas.

We have signed contracts with the Doubletree Hotel for 2013, 2014 and 2015. Each year, the show is the second weekend of October, so there will not be a conflict with NAME Day. The dates are October 12 & 13 of 2013, October 11 & 12 of 2014, and October 10 & 11 of 2015. Pass the dates on to anyone who might want to know.

The best news is that the hotel room rates will remain at the $89 level for 1 or 2 people through 2015. The rate for the ballroom will also remain the same. Other costs will rise, like electrical, publicity and printing, but having the ballroom cost the same means any rise in dealer table fees will be slight--if at all.

Just a reminder to keep checking our Blog for updates.  New postings appear every Saturday.
