Friday Workshop #9: Hexagonal Burl Wood Tray with Layne Halliday

Layne Halliday is offering a Friday Workshop to craft a lovely 1:12 scale Burl Wood Tray. Participants will choose a figured wood burl for the tray base with a choice of Mahogany, Cherry, Walnut or Maple wood for the mitered sides. Students will learn how to cut wood accurately, then sand and varnish the tray to finish it.

Friday Workshop: St. Louis Shanty Boat, 1:48 scale. By Karen Cary's Miniatures

The talented Karen & Alan Cary are offering a new quarter-scale workshop to built "The St. Louis Shanty Boat." It has a main cabin area with bathroom and a great room for living quarters. Stairs lead up to the second story Captain's Bridge. There are two outside decks. Interior furniture kits and accessories will be available to purchase during class. All skill levels welcome. Announcing 2014 Friday Workshops

We are excited to announce that the 2014 Friday Workshops are now posted on our Website. Eight classes will be held on Oct. 10, 2014 at the Doubletree Hotel, 2050 Gateway Place, San Jose, CA, where the Show takes place. Pre-registration is required. Workshops are 1:12th scale, unless otherwise stated.

Classrooms are on the lower level, below the Lobby area. All instructors are highly skilled artisans and experienced teachers. You will have an opportunity to learn basic skills or new techniques while completing a miniature project. There's sure to be at least one class that you'll really want to try. Sign up early. Class #1: Sliceable Pumpkin Cakes with Ruth Stewart

Join Ruth for a morning of fun making 1:12 scale Sliceable Pumpkin Cakes. You will make pumpkin vines, leaves and learn some basic cake decorating. All skill levels welcome. Class #2: Painting a Cat with Sue Veeder, IGMA Fellow

Each student will receive a 1:12 scale hand-sculpted Super Sculpey cat. A variety of poses will be available. Students will learn fine painting details and a technique for adding a longer fur look to the cat. A fun class with an experienced teacher and cat lover. All skill levels welcome. Class #4: Hooked Rug with Sally Evans, IGMA Fellow

Join IGMA Fellow Sallie Evans and learn to make a 1:12 scale hooked rug using a Russian Punchneedle. In addition to learning the intricacies of using a Russian Punchneedle, class participants will learn to work with cotton and/or silk floss. Students will learn Sallie's unique finishing techniques, and much more. Punchneedles and needle threaders will be available to buy. All skill levels welcome. Class duration: 9 am to 5 pm. Class #5: "Lazuli Bunting" with IGMA Fellow Beth Freeman-Kane, South Africa

Join IGMA Fellow Beth Freeman-Kane from South Africa to create this charming 1:12 scale vignette. Students will learn to mix and blend colors and apply them in layers to create the sense of soft roundness of the Lazuli Bunting bird. Class participants will put together a few meadow flowers, and add a bit of landscaping detail amongst lush meadow grass to create texture. A frame kit will be available to buy, and the scene can be mounted and framed in class. Students will also have the opportunity to buy some of Beth's signature dragonflies.

Class #6: Carousel Pop-Up Book: The Night Before Christmas with IGMA Artisan Tine Krijnen, Netherlands

Learn to make a 1:12 scale Carousel Pop-Up Book: "The Night Before Christmas" with IGMA Artisan Tine Krijnen from the Netherlands. A popular instructor, Tine teaches the unique skills to make two entirely different types of books. This includes precision cutting, folding, and bookbinding. The first is a lovely carousel pop-up book with five scenes of the "The Night Before Christmas" (Clement Clark Moore, 1823). The second is a separate volume with the complete poem.

Class #7: Elegant Jewelry for your Doll with Lynn O'Shaughnessy, IGMA Artisan

IGMA Artisan Lynn O'Shaughnessy teaches special techniques for making six lovely pieces of jewelry with gold wire and crystals, using your original designs. 1:12 scale. Students are welcome to bring a favorite doll or mannequin on which to display a final project. Extra wire and crystals, tools, mannequins, beads and finished displays will be available for purchase.
