The Guys from Texas, 2014 Academy Instructors

In the past 3 months we have introduced each of our instructors at the second annual
Good Sam Academy of Miniatures. However, we did not have full pictures from The Guys from Texas then. We want to share them with you now. Jon Fish and Larry Osborn are among the finest designers and builders of miniature structures in the country. They can build in any scale and any period. A Frank Conversation is a 1:12 scale room box in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright. It will be a 3 day class and you will learn so much. Further information on this year’s Academy will be on the show web site in just a few weeks and will be announced here at that time.

New Dealer: Wildwood Dollhouses

It has been many years since April and Ron Gill of Wildwood Dollhouses have visited our show. We are happy they will be dealers here in 2014. They have been doing miniatures for 35 years and do one of a kind structures, which can be found in many museums and private collections.

Three Ravens is a shop for witches with windows and doors of real leaded glass. There is a cave for making potions, and they are sold upstairs. Most of the bones are real bones.

The exterior of the Craftsman Kitchen is oak and the interior is cherry.

Exhibits

The Santa Cruz Miniature Guild shared a delightful exhibit at the Good Sam Show in 2013. They met one afternoon a month specifically working on their Antique Shoppe, each member contributing things they had or made for the Shoppe. It is as crowded as a real Shoppe would be. The members of the Guild are Duane Adams, Marian Allen, Dot and David Blank, Lois Bruce, Sharon Fassio, Gloria Green, Carol Johnson, Constance Lombardo, Colleen O’Gara, and Jo Pollock.

Exhibits

Cynthia Howe displayed “The Chocolatier” in 2013. It would be such fun to shop in that store. The Chocolatier was an online class and kit by Cynthia Howe Miniatures. The doll was sculpted by Nancy Cronin, and costumed by Cynthia Howe, known for her doll costuming.

Michael Puff, our outstanding show photographer, is also a fine miniaturist with a good eye for drama. His exhibit, Vermeer "Girl with a Pearl Earring”, is his version of what Vermeer’s model might have looked like. Box was built in a workshop taught by IGMA Artisan Bluette Meloney, painting by IGMA Artisan Dan Worsham, Doll by Cindi Cannon, carved table & stools by IGMA Fellow Ann High, and porcelain by IGMA Fellow Henny Staring-Egbert.

Exhibits

Connie Sauve, an IGMA Fellow and our show Exhibit Chairman, usually brings several exhibits of her own to the show. This one, made in 1991, “Daddy’s Little Workshop”, really caught our eye. Connie’s father, a carpenter, and she built her own dollhouse in 1986 together. This carpentry shop still reminds him of the fun times they had when she was young. The rocking horse is by Karen Lowe, and the tools are by Sir Thomas Thumb. Click on pictures to enlarge them.

“The Winery Tasting Room” is presented by Judy Pick in one inch (1:12) scale for our enjoyment. The Tasting Room was built in the monthly Saturday classes held in Morgan Hill by The Mini-Cals and Through the Looking Glass. Judy says she learned a lot in those classes. Barbara Greene and Luci Hanson

This lovely quarter-scale bathroom and bedroom were found on the table of Barbara Greene of Silver Fox Creations, one of our Canadian Dealers. The furniture is Bespaq. Barbara is the exclusive distributor of Bespaq quarter-scale furniture with its hand-painted the flowers on the white furniture. Barbara used a hardwood display case with two inserts by Luci & Dick Hanson, Cascade Miniatures. Cascade Miniatures is also a dealer at the Good Sam Show. "Christmas Kitchen" in 1:12 scale by Barbara Adams, San Jose, CA, member of Through the Looking Glass Miniature Club. "I repurposed the hutch from a NAME Day project and made the kitchen around it. I am fond of all things gingerbread and have been gathering for a long time. Creating this scene gave me the perfect place to use my collection."
