Exhibits

Connie Sauve, an IGMA Fellow and our show Exhibit Chairman, usually brings several exhibits of her own to the show. This one, made in 1991, “Daddy’s Little Workshop”, really caught our eye. Connie’s father, a carpenter, and she built her own dollhouse in 1986 together. This carpentry shop still reminds him of the fun times they had when she was young. The rocking horse is by Karen Lowe, and the tools are by Sir Thomas Thumb. Click on pictures to enlarge them.

Nell Corkin, IGMA Fellow, has sent us pictures of what she will be teaching at our 2014 Good Sam Academy of Miniatures. This adorable cottage in 1:144 scale would be perfect as a stand alone piece or as a dollhouse in your 1:12 scale dollhouse. The battens (vertical strips of wood) shown on the front of the cottage will not be used at the Academy, but otherwise this is what her students will take home.

Club Christmas Exhibits

 The 2013 Showcase of Miniatures (Good Sam Show) featured a number of exhibits celebrating a Christmas theme. The Miniattics Club, based in Redwood City, built market stalls from a kit designed by Lynn Miller, co-president of the club. Below are their offerings. All are 1” scale except Laura Johnson’s, which is two in 1:48, or quarter scale.

We so appreciate the club projects that are shared in our exhibit area. There will be more to come.

Nell was introduced last month as one of our 2014 Academy teachers. Nell specializes in 1:144 scale miniatures, and will be a dealer at our 2014 show. We borrowed pictures from her web site to share with you, since they tickle our fancy and are in line with this month's theme. We will be featuring products and displays that celebrate Christmas. We are starting with two of Nell's pictures.

By the time our first annual Good Sam Academy of Miniatures was history, we had lined up eight fine instructors for the second annual Academy. In the next 8 weeks we will introduce each of them and some of their work. By March we should have pictures of what they will teach in 2014 from Oct. 13-17, immediately after the Good Sam Show. We will have some pictures of the 2013 Academy soon.

Our first instructor is Nell Corkin, an IGMA Fellow who resides in Michigan. Nell specializes in 1:144 size miniatures, which is the size a dollhouse would be that was inside a 1:12 size dollhouse. New 3D Statues from Stewart Dollhouse Creations

Ruth Stewart, Stewart Dollhouse Creations, is introducing 3D statues at this year's show. Made with a 3D printer, the statues range from 1:12 to 1:48 and include a few 1:144 scale. A lot of varieties will be available with bronze, gold, clear glass, white pearl and stone white finishes. Rachel Roet of Amsterdam has been coming to Good Sam since 2006 and makes fabulous hand-embroidered paintings. She sells as Hannah Roet (in honor of her mother, a famous Dutch miniaturist).  Rachel also carries a interesting selection of items made by other artisans. Phyllis Nishimori and her sister Liz Aduan of Grandt Line Products offer delightful 1:48 and 1:144 scale project kits. Their small fantasyland designs are loaded with creativity and whimsy. At the Show - Christmas Kits in Small Scale

The Winterberry Kit in 1:144th scale is a two-story house with four rooms and a veranda all decked out in Holiday decor. Everything is included to make the dollhouse as shown. Finished house is 2-1/4" tall (not including the chimney). Skill level: Intermediate.
