Nell Corkin, 2014 Academy Instructor

Nell Corkin, IGMA Fellow, has sent us pictures of what she will be teaching at our 2014 Good Sam Academy of Miniatures. This adorable cottage in 1:144 scale would be perfect as a stand alone piece or as a dollhouse in your 1:12 scale dollhouse. The battens (vertical strips of wood) shown on the front of the cottage will not be used at the Academy, but otherwise this is what her students will take home.

Deb Mackie, 2014 Academy Instructor

Deb Mackie of Maryland (White Horse Studio) is our Academy instructor of the week. Deb is an I.G.M.A. Artisan and will be among our 8 Academy instructors in 2014. Formally trained as a graphic designer and illustrator, Deb Mackie also brings to the world of miniatures a background in theatrical set and costume design. The journey into sculpting and customizing began with her desire to include realistic figures and animals in her 1:12 scale dioramas. We do not yet know what Deb will be teaching, but we believe it will involve a saddle and possibly a horse in some way. You are sure to have a great class with Deb. These pictures are samples of her work, not necessarily what she will be teaching.

Carol Wagner, doing business as Carol Wagner Fine Miniatures, is an I.G.M.A. Fellow in Plants, and finer plants cannot be found. She is an expert in roses and fuchsias, and makes other lovely combinations of plantings as well. 2014 will be her sixth year at the Good Sam Show. By the time our first annual Good Sam Academy of Miniatures was history, we had lined up eight fine instructors for the second annual Academy. In the next 8 weeks we will introduce each of them and some of their work. By March we should have pictures of what they will teach in 2014 from Oct. 13-17, immediately after the Good Sam Show. We will have some pictures of the 2013 Academy soon.

Our first instructor is Nell Corkin, an IGMA Fellow who resides in Michigan. Nell specializes in 1:144 size miniatures, which is the size a dollhouse would be that was inside a 1:12 size dollhouse. At the Show - Outhouse and Art Doors

A dealer at Good Sam for more than 14 years, Dr. Ken Byers, Shaker Works West, is sharing his new 1:12 scale Americana outhouse and Art Doors with us. Ken's latest structure "The Olde Mill Chocolate Factory" (circa 1900) will be featured in the March-April 2013 issue of Dollhouse Miniatures magazine. The American Privy is a lighted 5" x 7" (plus frame) classic piece of Americana to hang on the wall. Students will build and paint Ken's delightful Outhouse at a workshop on Thursday, April 18, at the 2013 Tom Bishop Chicago International Show. Space will be limited so students should sign up early.

Ken's lighted museum quality Art Doors include a New York Brownstone, an Italian Tuscany house, and a collection of Mexico's historic San Miguel de Allende doors. Many date back to the early 1700s. Cast in composite materials, each piece is meticulously hand-finished in original colors. All of these wall hanging doors are approximately 8-1/2" x 10" and framed as shown. This first series is limited to 25 reproductions of each door and is offered at $375 each.
