At the Show - Exhibit

"This Gazebo was made from scratch," Janet Oliver tells us. "All of the flowers were made by me, as well as the hanging light." In 1:12 scale, the exhibit is 18-inches wide, by 18-inches deep, and 27 inches high.  It is loaded with detail. There is something delightful to see wherever you look.

From the Chairman - Tools Needed for the Good Sam Academy

We continue to seek donations of tools for the new Good Sam Academy of Miniatures. If you live in the Bay Area and would like to donate any of the tools listed below, we would be delighted to have them. All such donations are tax deductible.

Tools needed for the Academy:
1.  Small table saws by Dremel, Preac, Proxxon, Jarmac or Microlux.
2.  Scroll or jig saws by Dremel, Microlux, Hegner or others.
3.  Drill presses by Cameron, Proxxon, Microlux, Anker, Dremel #210 drill presses
     and other overhead shapers.
4.  Dremel Moto-tools, the ones you hold in your hand, of any age.
5.  Lathes by Taig, Sherline, Unimat, Anker or Klein, and duplicators to fit where
     available.
6.  Belt sanders and disc sanders by Jarmac, Dremel and others.
7.  Magnetic gluing jigs, sharp drill bits (sizes 61-80 in boxed sets), pin vises, various
     clamps, tweezers, cutters and nippers, small pliers, squares, rulers, depth and angle
     gauges, needle files, small screw drivers (slotted and Phillips).

GSAM Instructor Geoff Wonnacott

Cabinetmaker Geoff Wonnacott of England has been handcrafting authentic museum quality furniture reproductions in 1:12 scale since about the mid 1980s. He is an IGMA Fellow in Furniture and will be offering two workshops at the Good Sam Academy. The first is a French Transitional Louis XV-XVI Bureau (c1774) scheduled for three-days, October 14-16. The second is a two-day workshop scheduled October 17-18  to construct a George III Chippendale Silver Table.

At the Show - Exhibit

This week, we are sharing the "Ward & Company Radio Shop" exhibit. This amazing piece is from the collection of Connie Sauve, Exhibit Chairman. The photos are by her.

"I was inspired by the idea of a radio shop inside a radio," Connie says "I started searching radios, and quickly found out there aren't any out there. This whole project was made by Walter Buffinton. I bought it mostly as is from him on eBay. I made it my own by making a few changes. I repainted some of the outside, changed a few of the signs and other things. Then I added a couple radios and cats. I still want to add a proprietor and a customer."

From the Chairman - Ad for 2013 Good Sam Academy Workshops

IGMA Fellow Geoff Wonnacott is offering a workshop to construct the French Transitional Louis XV-XVI Bureau (c1774) shown in the Ad. The Good Sam Academy class is scheduled Monday, October 14 through Wednesday, October 16.

An IGMA Fellow, Nancy Summers has been making custom furniture and beds for more than thirty-six years. Designs include French Louis XIV, Louis XVI, Victorian, Art Deco, modern, and more. Nancy also makes a number of furniture kits, mainly with modern designs.

She will be offering a three-day workshop at the Good Sam Academy from Oct 14-16. Students will learn how to make a 1:12 scale tufted leather chair with foot stool using leather, fabric or a combination of both. All skill levels are welcome. A very popular instructor, Rik Pierce's fantasy structures are based on English medieval and Tudor buildings. Using Creative Paperclay, he teaches students how to make fanciful brickwork, chimneys, fireplaces, plaster, walkways, and more. Class participants learn to make leaded/stained glass windows, distress hand-hewn beams and timbers, and make an aged plank wood floor. Students learn how to make glowing embers for the fireplace, and put in wiring for lights.
