From the Chairman: Upcoming Stockton Miniature Show
Don't miss the miniature show in Stockton next Saturday, June 15th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year it will be held at the University Plaza Waterfront Hotel at 110 W. Fremont St. in Stockton. We’ll see you there.
GSAM Workshops: Fun With Power Tools
On Saturday, June l, Barbara Jones, Good Sam Chairman, taught two hands-on "Fun with Power Tools" workshops at the Good Sam Academy. Saturday morning, students learned to use a bench top table saw. Saturday afternoon, students learned to use a scroll saw.
Enthusiastic students started the morning class with slight feelings of trepidation. All were able to practice ripping, cross cutting, cutting circles, and cutting dentil molding and finger joints. Students used GSAM's Dremel, Jarmac and Proxxon table saws, as well as several makes of scroll saws.
Seven students attended the Bench Top Table Saw Class in the morning.
Eight students attended the Scroll Saw Class in the afternoon.
Participants left with a new-found sense of confidence and their own handmade, finger joint cherry wood pieces to assemble later into boxes. The fee was $15 for each 3-hour session with proceeds to be used to build up GSAM's tool pool.
Later in 2013 or early 2014, Barbara hopes to offer more power tools classes. These will include lathe turning, use of the overhead router, making cornices, moldings and paneling. Interested students may contact her at northbaj@att.net or 408-257-9385. Also, if anyone has power tools to donate to GSAM, please give Barbara a call. At the Show - Exhibit
This week's exhibit is "Daddy's Little Workshop." It was built in 1991 by Connie Sauve, Good Sam Exhibit Chairman. Exhibited in the past at Good Sam, photos are courtesy of Connie Sauve.
"My Dad is a carpenter, and in 1986 we built my dollhouse out of 3/8" Birch Plywood, patterned after a Greenleaf Garfield house (with a few alterations). In 1991, I decided to make him an old fashioned carpentry shop for Christmas. I thought it would remind him of the fun time we had building my dollhouse together."
"I built from scratch, a replica of my dollhouse in approximately 1/144" scale. I took measurements from my full-size dollhouse and drew up the plans on 1/8" graph paper. The house is made from tiny wood clapboard siding and there is also fish scale shingles on the roof. I built the scene inside an antique shotgun shell wood box. I also love rocking horses so I decided to include one as another in-progress project. The tools are by Sir Thomas Thumb and the rocking horse is by Karen Lowe."

At the Show: Florals
Over the past year, long-time dealer Natalie Wright, The Wright Stuff Minis, Kirkland, WA, suffered multiple strokes. She can no longer make miniature flowers and plants in 1:12 scale. In the meantime, she had prepared for the Chicago International Show and is selling off her stock at 20% discount. (See contact info after photos.)
Available plants and flowers include: Hydrangeas, sunflowers, foxglove, delphinium, dahlias, geraniums, sweet peas on a trellis, morning glories on a trellis, hosta, iris, tulips, poppies, daffodils, clematis on a wooden trellis, calla lilies, daisies, gerbera daisies, cosmos, lily ponds, peonies, trugs, bell jars, and linens. Here are photos from prior Good Sam Shows.
Natalie considers herself fortunate as her memory and speech are excellent. She can walk (somewhat). It is difficult for her to write, so she has closed down her website and does not use the computer. She has regular physical therapy, is in good spirits, but misses going to the shows. If you would like to purchase any of Natalie's flowers with a 20% discount, telephone (425) 827-7340.
